I had a coupon for Crave Burger in Colorado Springs for a free appetizer, so my wife and I decided to give them a try. I've also seen them before when we go to Mod Pizza, so I at least knew of them. I ended up really liking this place.
I'm not generally big on other people's burgers. They have to wow me, as I'm good at making my own. So there have only been a handful of places that have impressed me. I liked Crave Real Burgers enough to vouch for the place.
On top of being award winning, Crave Real Burgers is a Colorado-based restaurant, so if you don't try them, you're unpatriotic.
Crave Burger has alcoholic milkshakes!
I had no idea going in what kind of place I was in for. The Crave Burger menu is filled with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic milkshakes, as well as plenty of burger combinations. And they are looking for new customer ideas for burgers, so the sky is the limit.
My Millionaire milkshake is filled with hazelnut liqueur, irish cream, and arrosta coffee liqueur. It tasted like a lightly spiked, very sweet starbucks creation. My wife and I shared this tasty treat and quite enjoyed ourselves.
We chose brussels sprouts and sausage as our free app. Brussels sprouts are gross, but the sesame teriyaki glaze made them quite likeable. Tessa was very fond of this app. There's not much sausage at the bottom of the app bowl, but it was there.
As I looked around the restaurant, I got a feel of the interior of Chipotle, but with a few TV's on the sports channel. It was very clean inside. It's a burger joint, no need to get fancy, but I would call it a premium burger, as Crave Burger does themselves.
Prices are a little more here. My campfire burger was $15 alone. It's a bit spendy here, and it's not without warrant I suppose, but this is certainly not a cheap lunch option.
The kitchen is very open and viewable, which I like. Crave and I also clearly have differing opinions on carbs, as you can probably read from the sign above the kitchen.
We got two burgers, the Nutty Professor, and the Campfire. I upgraded my to come with umami fries , which are sweet potato fries with teriyaki, dynamite sauce, parmesan, and green onions.
These plates are a feast, and I don't eat a huge amount of carbs, so combined with the app and the milkshake, we were both stuffed.
Crave Real Burgers' campfire burger comes with a buffalo patty, raspberry BBQ, pepper jack, jalapeno bottle caps, and coffee-dusted onion rings. It's a flavorful burger.
The Nutty Professor comes with a beef patty, peanut butter, bacon, jalapenos, and onion. Afterward, Tessa told me that it should come with jelly also, and we talked about making burgers with peanut butter and jelly. She also said her french fries were bland, but I didn't try any of hers. We agreed that the sweet potato fries were excellent.
I think the big appeal of Crave Burger is the burgers and shakes combo that lets you make just about any burger, and an appealing section of alcoholic milkshakes, for the kids at heart like me, but with an extra adult appeal.
Even with the free app, we spent a lot more money here than I wouldn't expected, although I did upgrade my side with my burger. A a place like this is definitely a step up from say Five Guys Burgers, in terms of presentation and quality, but is it worth that much more?
I say come to Crave Burger in Colorado Springs at least once, particularly if you have a fondness for milkshakes like I do. If you want to impress a client, this would be a good place to go to. Treat yourself to Crave Real Burgers at least once!
