The Spirit Halloween store in Colorado Springs is a yearly event, make no mistake. If you miss out on visiting and shopping here, then you're out of luck until next year! Unlike the Christmas shops in Manitou Springs and Estes Park that are open all year long, Halloween is strictly seasonal in the Springs.
Why would you go to a physical store when you can just order online through Amazon? Because Halloween is a sacred holiday. You must see the animatronics, costumes, and knick-knacks in person! Videos and pictures are nice and all, but going in person to Spirit Halloween is much more fun. Plus you can always buy online later after you've browsed in the store, and I think Spirit Halloween knows that people do this. Having the physical stores open before Halloween allows them to market their products for free (minus the space rental of course).
I took a video of the Jack Straw Animatronic also, so that you can see how it works:
Of course the spirit store doesn't have everything that they sell, but they make every effort to have as many different items as possible. We spent some time in here just hitting each other with plastic scythes, pitchforks, and scaring each other with animal masks.
Most of the stuff you can buy at the Spirit Halloween store is made out of cheap materials, so don't go in expecting quality. Most of what people buy for Halloween in general is pretty cheap, as it's only supposed to last one night, and it's nowhere near as ceremonious as your wedding day.
If you want something more quality, I would search elsewhere. For collecting candy and general cosplay, the store does well, but you will pay as much as you would online for it. Still, it's convenience and trying costumes on in person that will bring Halloween lovers here.
The arctic dragon animatronic looks really cool, but it didn't move as much as I thought it would, so ultimately disappointing. There is an option through to hook up a fog machine that shoots out of the dragon's mouth, but they didn't have it hooked up at the store.
I took another quick video of another animatronic and how it works. My son demonstrates by stepping on the big button on the floor:
If you don't know, I have a small obsession with Bob's Burgers, as evidenced by my review of Doug's Breakfast and Lunch. You can also get Louise's flipping ears. That's magical. The Spirit store is great for idea generation!
Amazon has most of what Spirit Halloween has for sale at their store. It's fun to see the selections in the actual store, and fun to take the kids to, but if you prefer to online shop, or you're like me, and you like to see stuff in person and then order it online later, you absolutely can do that.
I prefer to buy Halloween items well before Halloween, or right after, when they slash prices for stuff. As long as you can plan ahead a year, you can walk away with a bunch of Halloween decor and save it for next year. I added a quick Amazon search below with Spirit Halloween items. If you click the Go button you should be able to see a much larger selection. Who Owns Spirit Halloween?
Spencer's owns Spirit Halloween, which makes sense, as Spirit Halloween does feel like a Halloween extension to Spencer's. Spencer's bought Spirit Halloween back in 1999.
Does Spirit Halloween accept returns/give refunds?
Yes, if it's within 14 days, and they have to be in their original packaging. If you buy online, you can return online, or in store, if their stores are open at that time. If you return online, they will cover the shipping for the return also.
Does Spirit Halloween price match?
No, they don't. Check Amazon, eBay, Goodwill, garage sales, and the like, for possible better deals.
